Create a Fund That Reflects What Matters to You

One of the most flexible ways to give through HCCF is to create a charitable fund of your own. Your fund can support Hendricks County, a particular community or cause, one or more charitable organizations, scholarships, or other purposes that are important to you.

HCCF takes care of the administration, investment management, grant processing, and other details, while you choose the charitable purpose that is right for you.

Funds can be established during your lifetime or through your estate plans. Depending on your goals, a fund can provide support today, be permanently endowed to provide grants for generations, or combine elements of both.

Family Legacy Fund

A Family Legacy Fund gives HCCF the flexibility to respond to Hendricks County’s changing needs and opportunities over time. You establish the fund in your name, your family’s name, or another name you choose, and HCCF uses the fund to support important work throughout our community—today and for generations to come.

Field of Interest Fund

A Field of Interest Fund allows you to identify an area that matters to you—such as education, the arts, health, children and families, the environment, or a particular geographic community. HCCF uses its knowledge of Hendricks County to make grants that advance the purpose you choose.

Designated Fund

A Designated Fund provides ongoing support to one or more charitable organizations you name. HCCF manages the fund and makes grants according to your wishes, creating a permanent source of support for organizations that matter to you.

A Charitable Organization Fund is like a Designated Fund but it is started by a nonprofit organization for its own benefit.

Donor-Advised Fund

A Donor-Advised Fund allows you to make a charitable gift to HCCF and then recommend grants from the fund to eligible nonprofit organizations. HCCF handles the administration, investments, due diligence, and grant processing.

You can recommend organizations you already know and support, and when you’d like ideas, HCCF can help connect you with needs and opportunities throughout Hendricks County.

Scholarship Fund

A Scholarship Fund can help students pursue education after high school. You work with HCCF to establish the purpose and criteria for the scholarship, and HCCF administers the selection and award process in accordance with charitable and legal requirements.

A Field of Interest Fund is typically established to provide support for a specified charitable purpose (e.g., cancer research, the arts, public schools, impoverished children), with no future advice or recommendations from the Donor (or any persons designated by the Donor). Grants are made by the Community Foundation to address needs within the field of interest, today and tomorrow.

A Designated Fund typically is established to provide support for a specified public charity (e.g., the local women’s shelter, hospital, or arts organization), with no future advice or recommendations from the Donor (or any person designated by the Donor). Grants are made annually, directly to the organization. Designated funds can be used by a donor to provide support forever to a cherished organization, church or other nonprofit.

A Charitable Organization Fund typically is established by a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization or public charity (the “Agency”) to provide support for Agency’s exempt purposes, as recommended by the Agency. The Agency’s recommendations must be advisory only, and the Community Foundation must be free to reject any recommendations.

A Donor Advised Fund typically is established to provide support for various charitable and similar exempt purposes recommended by the Donor or persons designated by the Donor to advise the Community Foundation. The recommendations must be advisory only, and the Community Foundation must be free to reject any or all recommendations. Allows the donor to be involved in grant recommendations and to support a variety of organizations. Due to tax law, no grants from donor advised funds may go to individuals, or to benefit an individual. Please see our current Donor Advised Funds Handbook for more information.

A Scholarship Fund typically is established to provide education scholarships to individuals. The Donor (or persons designated by the Donor) has the option to be involved in the selection process for recipients.
