The Moonshot Grant is about dreaming big. The Moonshot Microgrants are about inviting the entire community to join the journey. Whether or not your organization plans to apply for the $1 million Moonshot Grant, you can help inspire imagination, spark conversations, and build excitement across Hendricks County.

Moonshot Microgrants

This program is open to projects and programs that meet these priorities:

Sparks community engagement and excitement surrounding the $1 Million Moonshot Grant opportunity
Space-themed
Must be in and for Hendricks County

Approved Programs

Some fully funded or no-cost projects or programs may be eligible for approved program status. Approved program status means your space-themed project or program would be deemed an official moonshot community program without receiving additional funding from the Community Foundation.

Approved programs/projects may benefit from:

official recognition and affiliation with the Moonshot Community initiative, including HCCF providing a digital badge designating the program/project an official Moonshot Space Partner,
increased visibility through HCCF communications and promotion on HCCF social media platforms, and
connections to other Microgrant approved programs/projects.

Eligibility

What/Who is eligible:

501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations
Government entities (including parks and trails)
Coalitions or collaborative groups
Non 501(c)(3) organizations with a charitable program open to the community

Timeline

Applications Live: October 20, 2026 – September 7, 2027

Applications Reviewed: Monthly, on the first Tuesday of the month

2026/2027 Dates: Oct 20, Nov 3, Dec 1, Jan 5, Feb 2, Mar 2, Apr 6, May 4, Jun 1, Jul 6, Aug 3, Sep 7,

Applications Awarded: Monthly, on the second Tuesday of the month

2026/2027 Dates: Oct 27, Nov 10, Dec 8, Jan 12, Feb 9, Mar 9, Apr 13, May 11, Jun 8, Jul 13, Aug 10, Sep 14

Grant Size

Funding will range from $250 to $2,500 per project.

HCCF may consider grants over $2,500. For grants over $2,500, please contact HCCF Program Associate, Skylar Hazlett at skylar@hendrickscountycf.org, before applying.

Reporting

Instead of a traditional grant report, HCCF is requesting the following through our online application portal Grants Lifecycle Manager (GLM):

A paragraph on how the money was used
Pictures from your program/project

These items are due to the Community Foundation generally a month after the last dollars are spent. All funds should be spent by December 1, 2027 and all reports are due no later than December 31, 2027.
